Job Description

Role Overview

As a Trainee Operative, you’ll join Tarmac’s early careers programme, learning how to support road surfacing operations and wider site activities. You’ll rotate through key tasks under supervision, develop a strong safety mindset, and build the technical and practical skills needed for a long-term future in construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Support road surfacing and construction activities under guidance from experienced operatives and supervisors
• Help set up, maintain and clear work areas in line with safety and environmental standards
• Operate tools and equipment (after training) safely and correctly
• Assist with basic maintenance, cleaning and checks on plant and machinery
• Follow method statements, risk assessments and site instructions at all times
• Work effectively as part of a site team, communicating clearly and asking questions when unsure
• Participate in scheduled training, assessments and reviews as part of your development plan

What You’ll Bring

• Genuine interest in construction, infrastructure or road surfacing work
• Willingness to learn, take instruction and work safely in outdoor, hands-on environments
• Good attitude to teamwork, timekeeping and reliability
• Basic level of physical fitness suitable for manual tasks
• Right to work in the UK and readiness to work full-time shifts as required
