Sector Statistics: Transportation & Diversity

As you cluster these roles, it may be helpful to note the current demographic landscape of the UK transport sector. According to recent industry data:

  • Gender: Approximately 10-12% of bus drivers in the UK are women, a figure Stagecoach and other operators are actively working to increase through inclusive recruitment.

  • Ethnicity: Within the broader transport and storage sector, approximately 16-18% of the workforce identifies as being from a Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic background.

  • Age: The sector traditionally leans toward an older demographic, with roughly 45% of drivers aged 50 or over, which is why “Trainee” and “Apprenticeship” programs are currently prioritized to attract younger talent.
