The Opportunity
Looking for a career that moves you forward—literally and professionally? Stagecoach is offering a fully funded pathway into the transport industry at their Hull Depot (Foster Street). No previous bus-driving experience is required; Stagecoach invests significantly in your development, paying you to train for your PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) licence while you earn a Level 2 Bus Driver Apprenticeship qualification. This role offers an annual salary of up to £33,500 (post-training/probation) and provides a stable, permanent career in an organization focused on sustainable, clean-energy vehicles. Beyond the competitive pay, you’ll enjoy unique perks like free travel for you and a companion, a comprehensive pension, and 28 days of holiday. It’s an ideal opportunity for anyone with a “can-do” attitude looking to become the heartbeat of the Hull, Beverley, and Cottingham communities.

The Role
As a Trainee Bus Driver, you are the face of Stagecoach for a fleet of 120 buses and 300 colleagues. Once qualified, you will navigate routes across Hull and surrounding areas, ensuring every customer—from students to the elderly—has a safe, smooth, and welcoming journey. The role is dynamic and operates on a rolling rota, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. You aren’t just a driver; you are a community navigator, helping people reach work, school, and family while acting as a trusted, friendly face in their daily lives.
Sector Insight: The “Community Heartbeat” Statistics
As you cluster this thirty-eighth role, consider the demographic and economic impact of the transport sector in Hull:
-
Workforce Representation: Stagecoach is an inclusive employer. Nationally, the bus industry is working to diversify; for instance, female representation among bus drivers in the UK is currently approximately 10% to 12%, a figure Stagecoach and others are actively looking to increase through “earn-while-you-learn” apprenticeships.
-
The “Training Premium”: Your pay during training (£13.19/hr) is notably higher than the National Living Wage (£11.44 in 2024/25) and even your Healthcare Team Leader (£13.40/hr) role, reflecting the high demand for qualified PCV drivers in the Humber region.
-
Semantic DNA: This role shares the “Compliance and Safety” DNA of your Project Surveyor (Hull City Council) and QA Manager (Kingston Carton), but adds a “Public Service” layer similar to the Domestic Abuse Practitioner.
