About the Role

In this Grade 5 technical role, you will be a cornerstone of the laboratory, providing high-level support for research into liver disease states and oncogenesis. Your day-to-day will involve designing and executing complex technical activities, ranging from in vivo disease modeling to histological imaging and molecular biology. You will act as a key problem-solver, troubleshooting equipment and protocols while ensuring the lab remains efficient, safe, and stocked. This position requires a proactive professional who can analyze intricate data, maintain meticulous records, and provide guidance to junior researchers to meet ambitious project milestones.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

  • A1: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 [Advanced Higher / Scottish vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

  • A2: Demonstrable in-depth technical knowledge and experience aligned to disease modelling specified in the job description. Including use of animal models, histological and imaging techniques and molecular biology techniques.

Desirable:

  • B1: Extensive Knowledge Or Qualifications Pertaining To Cancer Biology.

  • B2: Understanding of relevant health and safety policies and procedures relative to the role, and the quality outputs and standards required.

Skills

Essential:

  • C1: Excellent and demonstratable laboratory technical skills.

  • C2: Significant IT skills, including proficient user of relevant specialist and standard software packages.

  • C3: Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capability, including high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • C4: Proven interpersonal and communication skills.

  • C5: Excellent teamworking skills and where relevant to the post management skills.

  • C6: Ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet competing demands.

Experience

Essential:

  • E1: Significant and demonstrable relevant work experience within a similar environment, including evidence of previous professional development.

  • E2: Experience of understanding and interpreting the technical requirements of staff and students and implementing appropriate methods of achieving their needs.

  • E3: Work experience in managing the day-to-day running of a laboratory.

  • E4: Experience of planning and organising own workload to meet the needs of the research team.

  • E5: Experience of relevant health and safety policies and procedures relative to the role, and the quality outputs and standards required.

Desirable:

  • F1: Experience working with mammalian disease models.

  • F2: Experience with histological techniques and microscopy.

  • F3: Experience working with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.

  • F4: Experience of planning and organising own workload.

  • F5: Experience with software for analysing and plotting data for example GraphPad Prism.
