Technical Security Engineering Apprentice – FCDO Services

About the Role
This 39-month apprenticeship is designed to transform your interest in technology into sector-leading expertise. You will learn to design, install, and maintain state-of-the-art electronic security systems, ranging from sensitive intruder detection and complex CCTV to digital radio installations. The role is truly international—you will have the chance to work on projects from London to Libya, brainstorming ways to prevent eavesdropping and protect occupants in government buildings. Your journey begins with 9 months of full-time study at a local college to build your foundational knowledge before moving into hands-on, high-stakes global projects.
Key Responsibilities

Installation & Maintenance: Learning to set up and service cutting-edge technical security solutions and digital radio equipment.

Technical Innovation: Brainstorming and implementing measures to prevent eavesdropping and safeguard sensitive government environments.

Global Delivery: Working with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver security projects at home in the UK and in overseas regional hubs.

Academic Progression: Combining practical experience with studies to achieve a Level 3 qualification in engineering.

Collaboration: Working alongside senior engineers to plan and design futuristic security products that are unsurpassed in the industry.
Requirements & Person Specification

Citizenship: Must be a British Citizen and have lived in the UK for the last three years (and at least five of the last ten years).

Age: At least 16 years old by 1 July 2026 (to facilitate Security Check clearance).

Education: Minimum of two GCSEs (Grades 9-4/A*-C) in both Maths and English.

Technical Interest: A keen interest in engineering, electronics, and technology.

Hands-on Experience: Experience using basic hand tools (e.g., drills, saws, files) is a lead criterion for selection.

Soft Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, a proactive team player, and an interest in overseas travel.

Theory: A basic understanding of electronic or electrical theory.
