Job Description

Shape the future of a dynamic public library network as Team Leader Library Collections & Information Services. In this leadership role, you’ll curate inclusive collections, guide a skilled team and ensure Liverpool’s libraries remain vibrant, well‑used spaces for learning, leisure and discovery.

Role Overview

Based within Liverpool City Council’s Library and Museum Services, you will lead the Collections & Information Services team across six branches, including the internationally recognised Yellamundie Library and Gallery. You’ll drive collection strategy, oversee acquisitions and cataloguing, manage budgets, and contribute to exceptional front‑of‑house service, including rostered evening and weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, evaluation and continuous improvement of print and digital collections across all libraries
  • Analyse usage data and community needs to shape purchasing, weeding and new collection initiatives
  • Manage supplier relationships and contracts, ensuring value for money and responsive service
  • Oversee cataloguing, metadata and information services standards to ensure discoverability and access
  • Contribute to and implement strategic and business plans, including service agreements and performance measures
  • Manage budgets for collections and related services, monitoring expenditure and forecasting needs
  • Supervise, support and develop team members, including training, performance feedback and rostering
  • Participate in circulation desk and customer service shifts, including evenings and weekends as required
  • Build internal and external partnerships that enhance library services and community engagement

About You

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Studies (ALIA‑eligible), or relevant tertiary qualification in a related discipline
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a public library and customer‑service environment
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams, including supervision, coaching and training
  • Demonstrated knowledge of collection development, assessment and evaluation
  • Experience implementing new collections or formats based on community needs and usage data
  • Strong problem‑solving and project‑management skills, with experience contributing to strategic planning
  • Budget management experience, including monitoring and reporting
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills
  • Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to work across a 7‑day roster, including evenings and weekends
