Teaching Assistant (1-to-1 SEND with ASD, ADHD and Dyslexic Specialism )

St Bede's College

job description

St Bede’s College is seeking a dedicated and versatile professional to fill a unique dual-support role. Our mission is to provide an inclusive and structured environment where every student, regardless of their specific challenges or external commitments, can reach their full potential. We are looking for a candidate who can offer both high-quality SEND provision and academic guidance for elite student-athletes, ensuring that all pupils feel understood, supported, and empowered to succeed in their educational journey.

Key Purpose and Objectives

  • Provide high-quality, consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), enabling the pupil to access learning, remain engaged in lessons, and develop a positive attitude towards education in order to achieve their maximum potential.

  • Create a safe, supportive, and structured environment in which the pupil feels reassured, understood, and able to regulate their emotions effectively.

  • Support the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional development through close collaboration with the SEND department, teaching staff, and relevant professionals.

  • Regularly review and update the pupil’s personal profile, identifying barriers to learning, and implementing appropriate adaptations and strategies that allow the pupil to thrive.

  • Maintain clear and proactive communication of progress, successes, and concerns with colleagues and parents to ensure a joined-up approach to support.

  • Provide academic support to a small number of elite sports pupils from Manchester City Academy, helping the pupil to manage catch-up work and balance their educational development alongside elite sporting commitments across both St Bede’s College and Manchester City Academy settings.

About the Role

In this position, you will split your expertise between two vital areas: delivering intensive 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND and providing academic mentorship to elite youth players from the Manchester City Academy. You will act as a key liaison between the college, the sports academy, and families, ensuring that academic catch-up work is managed effectively alongside rigorous training schedules. By identifying barriers to learning and implementing tailored emotional regulation strategies, you will help your students navigate both the classroom and the pressures of elite sport. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of specialist education and high-performance athletics, requiring a candidate with exceptional communication skills and a proactive approach to student welfare.
