Join a Flourishing Academic Tradition

Westminster School is looking for a well-qualified and intellectually curious Teacher of Theology and Philosophy to join our vibrant department on a part-time basis. As our school moves toward full co-education, we are seeking educators who bring a breadth of perspectives and a passion for deep, scholarly inquiry. Our department is a hub of academic rigour, hosting in-house conferences and engaging with the wider academic community through initiatives like Philosophy Fortnight. Whether you are an experienced teacher, a university academic, or someone beginning your career, we offer a high-level Professional Studies programme to support your growth in this unique and stimulating environment.

Requirements, Qualifications and Skills

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver stimulating and engaging lessons to students across all year groups, with a particular focus on exam classes.

  • Contribute to extra-curricular activities as directed by the Head of Theology and Philosophy.

  • Take a proportionate share of the departmental teaching timetable.

  • Calm under pressure, well-organised and able to work effectively with colleagues, pupils and the wider school community.

  • A degree in Philosophy, Theology, or TPRS is essential.

  • Teaching experience is desirable but not essential (qualified and unqualified teachers are considered).

Why Teach at Westminster?

In this role, you will be part of a department that treats Theology and Philosophy as living, breathing disciplines. You will have the opportunity to guide students through robust critiques of the historic canon and contemporary scholarship, helping them apply complex ethics to modern issues. Beyond the classroom, you’ll be encouraged to participate in our rich academic culture, from the Young Philosophers Conference to various academic competitions. We pride ourselves on an ethos of open-mindedness and offer a supportive framework for all staff, ensuring you have the tools to inspire the next generation of thinkers in one of the world’s most historic educational settings.
