Teacher of Theology and Philosophy

Tes Schools Recruitment

job description

Join a Scholarly Community via Tes Recruitment

Tes is proud to support a prestigious London-based school in appointing a well-qualified Teacher of Theology and Philosophy on a part-time basis. This is a rare opportunity to join a thriving department that views these subjects as vital, living disciplines. As the school continues its transition to a fully co-educational environment, we are seeking an educator who can contribute a diverse range of perspectives to an already robust academic culture. Whether you are coming from a university setting, the private sector, or are an aspiring teacher early in your career, you will be supported by an exceptional Professional Studies programme designed to foster excellence in the classroom.

Requirements, Qualifications and Skills

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver stimulating and engaging lessons to students across all year groups, with a particular focus on exam classes.

  • Contribute to extra-curricular activities as directed by the Head of Theology and Philosophy and take a proportionate share of the departmental teaching timetable.

  • Calm under pressure, well-organised and able to work effectively with colleagues, pupils and the wider school community.

  • A degree in Philosophy, Theology, or TPRS is essential.

  • Teaching experience is desirable but not essential (qualified and unqualified teachers are considered).

  • All applicants need to have the Right to Work in the UK to be considered for the role.

Why This Role is Unique

In this position, you will go beyond standard curriculum delivery by leading students through in-depth critiques of the historic canon and contemporary scholarship. The department is a hub of intellectual activity, hosting internal Philosophy Conferences and participating in high-profile initiatives like Philosophy Fortnight and the Young Philosophers Conference. You will work in an environment that values open-mindedness and encourages pupils to apply philosophical ethics to emerging global issues. If you have a passion for TPRS and want to work in a setting that prioritizes thoughtful, inquiry-based learning, this role offers the perfect platform for your professional journey.
