Teacher of DT and Food Technology

Beacon Business Innovation Hub

Job Description

Drive Innovation in Design and Culinary Arts

The Beacon Business Innovation Hub (BBIH) is seeking a dynamic and inspirational Teacher of Design & Technology (DT) and Food Technology to join our forward-thinking team. As part of the Beacon Academy Trust, BBIH focuses on providing students with practical, industry-relevant skills. We are looking for an ambitious educator who can ignite a passion for creation and nutrition, helping students bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.

The Role

  • Subject Coverage: Deliver high-quality instruction across both Design & Technology and Food Technology.

  • Curriculum Focus: Empower students to master technical skills, from structural design and materials science to nutritional analysis and food preparation.

  • Engagement: Create a vibrant workshop and kitchen environment where students feel confident to experiment, iterate, and excel.

  • Wellbeing: Join a Trust that prioritizes staff health, offering an optional healthcare plan through Benenden Healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practical Excellence: Maintain high standards of health and safety in both the DT workshop and the Food Technology kitchen.

  • Student Progress: Plan and deliver lessons that cater to a range of abilities, ensuring all students are challenged and supported.

  • Professional Standards: Adhere to “Keeping Children Safe in Education” (KCSIE) guidelines and the BMAT Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

  • Collaboration: Contribute to the wider life of the Beacon Academy Trust, participating in departmental development and Trust-wide initiatives.

Candidate Profile

  • Inspirational Educator: A teacher with a “real passion” for their subject who can translate complex technical tasks into achievable student goals.

  • Versatile Specialist: Comfortable transitioning between the technical rigors of DT (e.g., CAD/CAM, resistant materials) and the scientific/practical aspects of Food Tech.

  • Safeguarding Committed: Dedicated to the welfare of young people, with a requirement for an enhanced DBS check.

Application Information

  • Location: Beacon Business Innovation Hub, Ilford (IG4 5LP).

  • Salary: M1 to UPS3 (Outer London Scale).

  • Start Date: May 2026.

  • How to Apply: Visit for the application form and submit it to recruitment@beaconacademytrust.co.uk.

Note: The Trust reserves the right to close or extend this position based on application volume. Early applications are highly encouraged.
