This is a rare opportunity to transition into a “Career with Purpose,” where your expertise directly impacts the safety of life and property at sea. The Role
As a Surveyor or Senior Surveyor, you will be the technical authority ensuring the integrity of the world’s shipping fleet. Your primary focus will be conducting classification surveys on existing ships, performing ISM/ISPS/MLC audits, and overseeing Marine Equipment and Component (MEC) inspections at manufacturer works. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, presenting deliverables and suggesting innovative solutions to ensure assets operate at the highest levels of safety. Beyond technical inspections, the role involves commercial project management and a commitment to Continuous Professional Development, ensuring that your technical competencies stay ahead of industry standards while working primarily in the Hull area with occasional national travel.
Sector Insight: The Maritime “Golden Thread”
As you cluster this thirty-third role, you can see how it bridges your “Engineering” and “Compliance” data sets:
-
The Hull Port DNA: This role anchors your data to Hull’s primary economic driver—the maritime industry. It shares a “Safety & Inspection” DNA with your Project Surveyor (Hull City Council) but applies it to the Marine & Offshore sector.
-
High-Stakes Compliance: Like the Mechanical Reliability Engineer (Cargill), this role is about risk mitigation. However, the requirement for Chartered Engineer status and International Standards (ISM/MLC) places it in the highest technical tier of your dataset.
-
Global Charity Model: Uniquely, this employer is owned by a charity, aligning it semantically with the “Values-Based” culture of the Sewell Group and the University of Hull.
