Specialist Pharmacist – Medicine (Band 7)
Kettering General Hospital (KGH), part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group, is expanding its Medicine Division. This is an ideal role for an ambitious pharmacist looking to bridge the gap between foundation practice and advanced clinical leadership. You will benefit from a structured 6-month rotational programme across diverse medical specialties, allowing you to develop a broad clinical portfolio within a supportive Group Model environment.
Core Requirements and Skills

Professional Status: MPharm degree and current GPhC registration are essential.

Education: Must have a postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma (or be significantly working towards one).

Experience: 1–2 years of post-registration UK hospital experience with a solid grasp of commonly prescribed medicines and NICE guidelines.

Leadership & Governance: Experience in prioritisation, delegation, and managing Datix investigations.

Clinical Skills: Proficiency in providing pharmaceutical care to complex medical patients and a desire to pursue Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP).

IT Literacy: Familiarity with pharmacy systems (e.g., Ascribe) and Microsoft Office.
Clinical Rotations & Responsibilities
The role is designed to provide high-level exposure to the various sub-specialties within the Medicine Division:

Acute & Urgent Care: Supporting A&E and the Medical Assessment Unit to ensure rapid, safe medicines reconciliation and initial treatment optimization.

Specialist Wards: Rotations through Cardiology, Respiratory, Endocrinology, and Care of the Elderly.

Safe & Economic Prescribing: Developing local guidelines, conducting clinical audits, and ensuring cost-effective medicine use.

Education & Mentoring: Acting as a coach and supervisor for Foundation Year pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare staff.

Salary: Band 7 (£47,810 to £54,710) per annum.
