Seeking an experienced Specialist Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist to assess, support, and deliver tailored interventions enhancing pupils’ communication and learning outcomes.


Job Description

The Unicorn School is a happy and flourishing school for pupils aged 7 to 18 years. The school currently has a team of over 80 members of staff for 139 children. The well-being of our pupils is at the heart of our ethos. Our class sizes are small, and pupils and subject teachers are well supported by a highly qualified team of specialist teachers.

We have a vacancy for a skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist, either full or part-time, to join our dedicated and supportive inter-disciplinary team, who support the best outcomes for the students through holistic and integrated programmes. You will work alongside another Speech and Language Therapist in addition to a Speech and Language Therapy assistant and school staff implementing 1:1 and group SLT input. You will provide a range of intervention including individual and group therapy sessions, support and train parents and staff along with universal level provision. You will be offered relevant training, support and supervision. The main focus of the role will be to assess and support the students holistic communication needs, facilitating in promoting the learning and personal development of the pupils, ensuring they make best use of the educational opportunities available to them.

The role will involve:

  • Managing a caseload and work with autonomy and independence.

  • Participating as an active member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

  • Undertaking appropriate formal and informal assessment, with a focus on the holistic needs of the student.

  • Providing therapeutic interventions independently for a range of Speech and Language related difficulties including, but not exclusive to: Developmental Language Disorder, Autism, Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity Disorder, Phonological disorders, Dyspraxia, and Stammering.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a SaLT degree/Qualification.

  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • MRCSLT Registration

  • Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Good assessment & organisational skills

  • Experience of health & social care policy / local & national agendas as they relate to disabled people

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Passionate about supporting children with communication difficulties.

  • Work in line with the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures, as well as relevant statutory guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent)

  • Collaborate with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to ensure the best interests of students are promoted, including sharing concerns where necessary

  • Maintain a vigilant and proactive approach to identifying and responding to potential safeguarding issues

  • Participate in regular safeguarding training to keep your knowledge and understanding up to date

  • Promote a culture of safeguarding and student welfare throughout your work at the school
