Job Description
A highly regarded Birmingham-based law firm is seeking a Solicitor and Team Leader to join their prestigious Occupational Disease department. This is a “player-coach” role designed for a technically gifted litigator who thrives on both high-value casework and the development of junior talent. You will lead a collaborative team recognized for its technical prowess, driving settlement strategies and maintaining excellence across a complex portfolio of disease claims.
The Candidate

Qualifications: Qualified Solicitor or equivalent with significant PQE in occupational disease litigation.

Technical Authority: Must have the essential authority to provide technical sign-off on litigated disease claims.

Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop others while managing a reduced caseload.

Litigation Expertise: Deep technical knowledge across all stages of the litigation process, including high-value and complex matters.

Commercial Mindset: Enthusiastic about performance management, continuous improvement, and hitting client benchmarks.
In this dual-focus role, you will balance personal fee-earning with strategic leadership. As Team Leader, you will provide day-to-day supervision and technical guidance to your team, ensuring that every case meets the firm’s high standards for quality and compliance. You will be the go-to expert for training and process improvements, helping to refine settlement strategies that deliver optimal results. On the casework side, you will handle a varied and litigated caseload, utilizing your expertise to navigate the nuances of occupational disease law while mentoring your team to achieve their individual performance objectives.
Occupational Disease Specialisms
You will oversee and handle cases involving a wide range of workplace-related conditions:

Asbestos-Related Diseases: Including Mesothelioma, Asbestosis, and Pleural Thickening.

Respiratory Conditions: Occupational Asthma and Silicosis.

Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL): Complex claims involving acoustic shock or long-term exposure.

HAVS/VWF: Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome and Vibration White Finger claims.

Dermatitis & Stress: Chemically induced skin conditions and complex psychiatric injury claims.
