Solar & Battery Field Technician O&M Scotland

Astute People

Level 3 Electrician – Solar & Battery Storage (Scotland)

As Scotland continues to lead the way in the UK’s transition to net-zero, a key player in the renewable energy sector is looking for a skilled Level 3 Electrician to join their field operations team. This role is vital for optimizing the performance of utility-scale solar farms and battery energy storage systems (BESS). If you are a technically minded electrician who enjoys the challenge of fault-finding in complex DC/AC environments and wants to be at the forefront of green technology, this is your opportunity.

About the Role

In this field-based role, you will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of renewable energy assets across Scotland. You won’t just be “fixing wires”—you will be ensuring the efficiency of the national grid by maintaining the components that generate and store power. You will perform rigorous testing on high-voltage DC arrays and AC distribution systems, identifying thermal anomalies or electrical faults before they lead to downtime. Safety is paramount; you will work under strict HSE guidelines to ensure every site operates at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance: Carrying out scheduled inspections of solar string inverters, transformers, and battery storage modules.

  • Testing & Inspection: Conducting DC string testing and AC infrastructure checks to ensure compliance with BS 7671 standards.

  • Fault-Finding: Using advanced diagnostic tools to locate and resolve complex electrical faults in both DC and AC circuits.

  • Performance Optimization: Monitoring system outputs and cleaning/adjusting components to ensure maximum energy yield.

  • Reporting: Maintaining accurate digital records of all testing results and maintenance activities for site compliance.

  • Health & Safety: Adhering to strict RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and electrical safety protocols.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Essential Qualification: A Level 3 NVQ/Diploma in Electrical Installation (or equivalent).

  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience in fault-finding and electrical maintenance, ideally within the renewables or industrial sectors.

  • Testing Certification: A valid City & Guilds 2391 (Test and Inspection) certificate is highly preferred.

  • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with DC systems, solar PV technology, or battery storage (BESS) is a significant advantage.

  • Mobility: A full UK driver’s license is required for travel to various sites across Scotland.

  • Safety First: A strong understanding of HSE requirements and safe systems of work.

Why Join the Renewable Revolution?

  • Competitive Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience and certifications.

  • Future-Proof Career: Build your expertise in the fastest-growing sector of the energy industry.

  • Benefits: A comprehensive package including a company van, specialist tools, private healthcare, and a pension scheme.

  • Work Environment: Join a company that values technical precision and is dedicated to Scotland’s sustainable future.
