Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Software Development Team Leader to join our growing team, specifically focusing on the Visualfiles ecosystem. In this role, you will lead a cross-functional group of developers to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet genuine business needs. You will combine strong technical leadership with people management, ensuring development work aligns with strategic goals, follows best practices, and hits delivery timelines. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Testers to guide and support your team.
Key Responsibilities
-
Team Leadership: Manage a high-performing development team, conducting one-to-ones, performance reviews, and supporting individual skill development.
-
Technical Ownership: Oversee technical output, ensuring quality, security, and scalability while enforcing coding standards and secure development practices.
-
Delivery Management: Review architecture decisions and pull requests, overseeing the delivery of features and fixes while supporting sprint planning and estimation.
-
Agile Advocacy: Promote Agile methodologies, acting as a Scrum Master or Kanban lead to drive improvements in tools and team workflows.
-
Collaboration: Build strong relationships across Product, QA, and Infrastructure teams, serving as the primary technical contact and domain expert.
About You
You should have a solid grasp of modern software engineering practices and extensive knowledge of tools such as Visualfiles, Azure DevOps, or Jira. We are looking for a leader who can coach and inspire, making confident decisions that balance business and technical requirements. While a degree in Computer Science is preferred, your history of delivering complex solutions on time and your ability to manage priorities in a demanding environment are what truly matter.
Technical Skills & Experience
-
Experience leading Agile development teams and mentoring others.
-
Proficiency in Secure Coding, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and automated testing (TDD).
-
Knowledge of Visualfiles is essential; experience with Java, RPG, JavaScript, SQL, APIs, or legacy platforms (e.g., AS400) is a significant plus.
-
Familiarity with regulated industries, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices.
We encourage our people to work flexibly and achieve a work-life balance that works for them. In return for your commitment, we offer a generous remuneration package including 26 days of holiday (with an option to buy more), a company pension scheme, and a Health Cash Plan. You will also have access to a comprehensive wellbeing programme, group legal and income protection, and exclusive employee discounts. Join us to take the next step in a progressive career pathway where your leadership will directly impact the future of our technology stack.
