Job Summary: Senior Financial Controller

Portman Talent has partnered with a high-growth, PE-backed Wealth Management firm to find a hands-on Senior Financial Controller. Working directly with the CFO, you will own the day-to-day finance function, ensuring the business has the robust controls and insights necessary for its next phase of evolution. Requirements and Skills

  • Proven Experience: Significant track record as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager.

  • Sector Knowledge: A background in Wealth Management or regulated financial services is highly advantageous.

  • PE Familiarity: Comfortable with the reporting rigour and pace associated with Private Equity backing.

  • Hands-on Mindset: A “roll up your sleeves” approach to finance operations in a growth-focused setting.

  • Communication: Confident influencer able to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders quickly.

  • Leadership: Experience managing and developing a small, agile finance team.


Role Overview

This is a genuinely operational role where you will take end-to-end ownership of the finance function. You will move seamlessly between overseeing core operations—such as month-end, budgeting, and cash flow—and supporting the CFO on high-level strategic initiatives. Your mission is to embed the “gold standard” of financial controls and systems to support sustained growth. You will be a visible leader, acting as a key partner to the wider business and ensuring that PE-related reporting requirements are met with precision and commercial insight.


Key Responsibilities

  • Finance Leadership: Full daily oversight of the finance function, including month-end, forecasting, and budgeting.

  • Process Transformation: Identifying, improving, and embedding robust financial controls and scalable systems.

  • Strategic Support: Partnering with the CFO on commercial projects and Private Equity reporting requirements.

  • Stakeholder Management: Engaging and influencing stakeholders across the business to align finance with operational goals.

  • Team Management: Leading and mentoring a small team to ensure high-quality delivery across all finance workstreams.


Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: £100,000 – £125,000 per annum (dependent on experience).

  • Environment: High-growth, Private Equity-backed firm.

  • Location: London.
