Shop Manager (Bakery)
Location: Bristol, BS6
Salary: £28,496 – £30,160 per Year
Hours: 40 hours per week, working 5 out of 7 days. Extended hours and weekends may be required.
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Shop Manager to lead and manage the retail site and team for our W B Employment Client, ensuring exceptional customer experience and smooth day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Customer Service:
• Deliver consistent food preparation, cooking, and service in a fast-paced environment.
• Ensure compliance with food safety systems, procedures, and training.
• Greet and serve customers, providing advice and answering queries about stock, promotions, and special offers.
• Resolve customer complaints effectively and use feedback to improve service quality.
• Introduce innovative ideas to improve the shop in line with trends and customer feedback.
Team Leadership & Management:
• Train, motivate, and manage shop assistants to ensure consistent, high-quality operations.
• Manage staffing matters, including sickness, holiday requests, interviews, appraisals, and performance reviews.
• Create and manage staff rotas.
• Carry out disciplinary procedures with appropriate support.
• Inspire the team to deliver excellent customer service, efficiency, and sales performance.
Commercial & Stock Management:
• Maximise profitability and achieve sales targets.
• Place and manage product orders, monitor stock levels, rotate stock, and manage waste.
• Enhance the shop’s commercial presentation, including maintaining brand standards and visual merchandising.
• Manage relationships with local businesses, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
• Plan and manage shop promotional activities.
Financial & Administrative Duties:
• Count cash registers at the end of shifts and maintain accurate records.
• Ensure secure opening and closing of the shop and safe handling of keys.
• Confidently use IT systems, including the retail management system (EPOS).
Health & Safety:
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and health and safety for the shop and staff.
• Liaise with relevant departments to ensure compliance and operational standards.
Requirements:
• Proven experience managing a successful, fast-paced food retail environment.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, fostering a positive team culture.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Highly effective organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
• Commercial awareness to make sound decisions based on trends, sales, and waste data.
• Confidence with IT and retail management systems.
• Knowledge of preparing high-quality drinks is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
• GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
• 2+ years’ retail management experience
• 2+ years’ supervisory experience
• 1+ year customer service experience
• Driving licence (preferred)
