SEN Learning Support Assistant | East Kent

Intro

Academics is looking for compassionate and resilient SEN Learning Support Assistants to join our dedicated supply team across East Kent. Whether you are based in Canterbury, Thanet, Dover, or the coastal towns of Folkestone and Hythe, this role offers the chance to work with a local agency that prioritizes genuine relationships. If you are passionate about helping pupils with additional needs overcome barriers to learning and want the flexibility of working across a variety of supportive school environments, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll do

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for children with additional needs.

  • Assist with tailored learning activities and promote classroom inclusion.

  • Encourage independence, communication, emotional regulation, and confidence.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents to support pupil progress.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting children with SEN (in a school, nursery, or care setting).

  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive, positive approach.

  • Flexibility to work across different schools and settings.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

About the Role

As a Supply SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will be the vital support system for students who require extra guidance to navigate the school day. Your role is highly varied; one day you might be assisting a child with emotional regulation through sensory breaks, and the next you could be adapting a literacy lesson for a small group. By working closely with SENCOs and external therapists, you will help implement strategies that foster both academic progress and personal independence. This is a “hands-on” role that requires a proactive mindset and the ability to adapt your communication style to meet the unique needs of every child you support.
