SEMH SEND Teacher

Chelsea Hall School

Job Description

Transformative Primary Education for Complex Needs

Chelsea Hall School is an “Outstanding” Independent Special School in London, supporting children aged 4-11 with mild to moderate complex learning needs. As part of the prestigious Cavendish Group, we pride ourselves on “thinking differently.” We are looking for an energetic and creative Primary SEND Teacher who specializes in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH). In our school, you won’t just follow a curriculum; you will work alongside a multi-professional team of therapists and specialists to build a bespoke, nurturing environment where every child feels safe enough to learn and grow.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

Bespoke Teaching & Planning

  • Small Class Leadership: Lead a small, specialized class of up to 6 pupils, ensuring lessons are highly engaging and tailored to individual sensory and cognitive profiles.

  • Individualized Progress: Maintain and update Individual Education Plans (IEPs) on a half-termly basis and contribute to Annual Reviews of EHCPs.

  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work in daily partnership with on-site therapists and teaching assistants to integrate therapeutic goals into the classroom.

Behavior & Environment

  • Positive Behavior Support: Utilize expert de-escalation techniques and positive management strategies to help pupils regulate their emotions.

  • Stimulating Spaces: Oversee the classroom environment and displays to ensure they provide a stimulating yet supportive learning situation.

  • TA Leadership: Direct and mentor your class Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are well-briefed and effective in their support roles.

Communication & Safeguarding

  • Parental Partnership: Maintain frequent, transparent communication with parents and external agencies to ensure a “whole-child” approach.

  • Unwavering Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of safety and wellbeing; participate in mandatory Child Protection and PREVENT training.

What We Are Looking For

  • SEMH Specialist: Proven experience working with children who have complex social, emotional, and mental health needs.

  • Patience & Resilience: A calm, patient demeanor with the ability to remain grounded during challenging behavioral incidents.

  • Creative Pedagogy: A teacher who can “think differently” to engage students who may have had negative prior experiences with education.

  • Team Player: A professional who thrives in a multi-professional setting and values the input of therapists and support staff.

Why Chelsea Hall School?

  • Outstanding Setting: Work in an environment officially recognized for excellence in special education.

  • Professional Growth: Benefit from being part of the wider Cavendish Group, offering unique opportunities for collaboration and creative professional development.

  • Holistic Focus: Focus on the “physical, educational, and moral development” of students, not just academic metrics.

  • Location: Join a dedicated team in a vibrant London-based independent school.

Application Details

  • Safeguarding: All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check and two satisfactory references.

  • Interview Insight: Be prepared to discuss safeguarding procedures and your specific approach to behavior de-escalation during the interview.
