Secondary SEMH Teacher (English, Maths or General)

Angel Meadow School

job description

Ace Education Manchester is a specialist alternative provision dedicated to supporting secondary-age pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We provide a sanctuary for young people who have faced barriers to mainstream education—whether through anxiety, school refusal, or emotional regulation difficulties. As part of the Angel Meadow Education Group, we combine the intimacy of a small alternative provision with the robust leadership, safeguarding, and CPD infrastructure of an independent special school. We are seeking resilient, relationship-led teachers to help our pupils find their way back to a love of learning.

The Role

We are recruiting for English, Maths, and General Teachers on a full-time or part-time basis. You will lead small, focused groups of 4–6 learners, utilizing a trauma-informed lens to bridge academic gaps and rebuild student confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Flexible Instruction: Deliver English, Maths, or general curriculum lessons tailored to students working below age-related expectations.

  • Relationship Building: Establish trust and rapport with pupils to support those experiencing school avoidance and anxiety.

  • Trauma-Informed Practice: Use restorative behavior approaches to support emotional regulation and maintain a calm, structured environment.

  • Collaboration: Work alongside mentors and support staff to provide a consistent, multi-disciplinary approach to student welfare.

  • Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports, ensuring the provision remains “Ofsted-ready.”

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Is a qualified teacher or an experienced unqualified teacher (QTS preferred but not essential).

  • Possesses a proven track record in SEMH, Alternative Provision (AP), or working with vulnerable learners.

  • Demonstrates extreme calmness, resilience, and a “relationship-first” mindset.

  • Believes fundamentally in inclusive education and the power of second chances.

Why Join Ace Education Manchester?

We prioritize the wellbeing of our staff just as much as our students, offering a unique structure that supports a healthy work-life balance:

  • Exceptional Hours: A shorter working day (08:30–14:30) designed to prevent burnout.

  • Small Class Sizes: Typically 4–6 pupils, allowing for genuine 1:1 impact.

  • Professional Growth: Access to high-quality CPD and training through Angel Meadow School, with clear pathways into SEND specialization.

  • Supportive Culture: A values-driven leadership team and a collaborative, non-judgmental working environment.
