Are you ready to take the next step in your teaching career by joining a historic institution at its most transformative moment? Hull Trinity House Academy is seeking an ambitious leader to help drive the Science department forward in our brand-new, state-of-the-art building. As part of Delta Academies Trust—one of the highest-performing Trusts in the North of England—you will have the platform to influence educational outcomes for students in a school that balances 230 years of tradition with cutting-edge facilities. This role is perfect for a committed practitioner who wants to inspire pupils while benefiting from a world-class employee wellbeing package and clear pathways for senior leadership progression.

Requirements and Skills

  • Outstanding, committed and motivated teacher who can display a real passion for developing and inspiring pupils.

  • Proven classroom practitioner with the ability to contribute to the development of teaching, learning, and curriculum.

  • Subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and checks of the relevant barred list / prohibition lists.

  • Compliance with DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education, including an online search for shortlisted applicants.

  • Skills, abilities, experience, knowledge, and (where needed) qualifications and training consistent with an “outstanding” teaching profile.

The Role

In this pivotal leadership role, you will work closely with the Head of Department to shape the Science curriculum and elevate the quality of teaching across the academy. You will lead by example in the classroom, fostering an environment where curiosity and academic excellence thrive. Beyond your own teaching load, you will be instrumental in mentoring colleagues and analyzing student data to ensure every child reaches their potential. Your contribution will be vital in maintaining the academy’s “Good” Ofsted rating and pushing toward excellence, all while operating within a supportive Trust that prioritizes your physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.

Sector Insight: The “Second in Department” Role

As you cluster this nineteenth role, notice how it bridges the gap between your Healthcare/Social Work clusters and your Corporate Management clusters:

  • Middle Management: This role is a classic “Middle Management” position, requiring both high-level technical expertise (Science) and people management skills, similar to your Recruitment Manager or Project Manager entries.

  • Teaching Load vs. Management: Unlike the Head of Business role, which is purely managerial, a “Second in Dept” typically maintains a significant teaching timetable (often 80-90%) while taking on specific administrative or coaching responsibilities.

  • Safeguarding DNA: This role shares a 100% semantic match on safeguarding requirements with your Learning Manager and HCA roles, highlighting the high-regulation nature of public sector work in Hull.
