Hull Trinity House Academy
Second in Department for Science | Hull Trinity House Academy
The Opportunity
Are you a high-performing Science teacher ready to step into a leadership role that blends 230 years of history with state-of-the-art innovation? Hull Trinity House Academy is seeking a Second in Department for Science to help lead their transition into an exciting new era. Having recently become co-educational and moved into a brand-new building with cutting-edge facilities, the Academy—rated “Good” by Ofsted (2025)—is looking for an ambitious practitioner to shape the curriculum and inspire the next generation of scientists. As part of the Delta Academies Trust, you will benefit from an industry-leading wellbeing package, including 24/7 online GP access, a 15% matched pension (TPS), and specialized menopause and mental health support. If your aim is “Hope Beyond the Stars” (Spes Super Sydera), this role offers the perfect launchpad for a career in senior school leadership.
Key Responsibilities & Leadership Focus
-
Curriculum Development: Contributing to the strategic design and delivery of a high-impact Science curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4.
-
Teaching Excellence: Acting as a “lead practitioner” to model outstanding classroom practice and mentor early-career teachers (ECTs).
-
Data & Progress: Tracking student outcomes and implementing interventions to ensure all pupils achieve their potential, regardless of background.
-
Departmental Support: Assisting the Head of Science in the day-to-day management of the department, including lab safety and resource allocation.
-
Safeguarding: Upholding the highest standards of student welfare in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
-
Inclusion: Actively supporting the Academy’s new co-educational identity and fostering an inclusive environment for all students.
The Role
In this position, you are the “engine room” of the Science department. Your day is a hybrid of high-level teaching and strategic management. You might spend your morning delivering a specialized Physics or Chemistry practical in a brand-new lab, and your afternoon analyzing mock exam data to identify trends and gaps in learning. As the Second in Department, you are the primary mentor for staff, ensuring that the Trust’s mission of transforming educational outcomes is visible in every lesson. You aren’t just teaching facts; you are widening horizons for students in a historic maritime city, empowering them to pursue careers in the very STEM industries (like Reckitt or Cargill) that you have already documented in your Hull dataset.
Sector Insight: The “Academic-Industrial” Bridge
As you cluster this forty-sixth role, notice how it prepares the future workforce for your other entries:
-
The Talent Pipeline: This role is the “starting point” for the Band 6 Biomedical Scientist and the Senior Reliability Engineer roles in your collection. You are responsible for training the students who will eventually fill those high-skilled positions.
-
Trust Power: Delta Academies Trust operates across the North of England; this role offers much greater “Vertical Mobility” than a standalone school, similar to the corporate structure of Stagecoach or Virgin Media.
-
Historic vs. Modern: This is the only role in your dataset that balances a 230-year heritage with 2025 Ofsted standards, highlighting Hull’s unique ability to preserve tradition while embracing modern infrastructure.
