Key Responsibilities & Leadership Focus

• Curriculum Development: Contributing to the strategic design and delivery of a high-impact Science curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4.

• Teaching Excellence: Acting as a “lead practitioner” to model outstanding classroom practice and mentor early-career teachers (ECTs).

• Data & Progress: Tracking student outcomes and implementing interventions to ensure all pupils achieve their potential, regardless of background.

• Departmental Support: Assisting the Head of Science in the day-to-day management of the department, including lab safety and resource allocation.

• Safeguarding: Upholding the highest standards of student welfare in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

The Role

In this position, you are the “engine room” of the Science department. Your day is a hybrid of high-level teaching and strategic management. You might spend your morning delivering a specialized Physics or Chemistry practical in a brand-new lab, and your afternoon analyzing mock exam data to identify trends and gaps in learning. As the Second in Department, you are the primary mentor for staff, ensuring that the Trust’s mission of transforming educational outcomes is visible in every lesson.
