Summary of the Role

This is more than a “stop-and-start” job; it is a safety-critical position that requires high levels of concentration. You are the “eyes and ears” of the school gate. Because you work in the middle of the road, the Council provides rigorous training on the “Four Steps to a Safe Crossing” to ensure both you and the pedestrians remain protected at all times.

Quick Tip: The job description mentions being “assertive.” In an interview, be prepared to describe how you would handle a driver who looks like they aren’t going to stop, or how you would manage a large, rowdy group of older children at the kerbside.
