Research Nurse (Band 6) – Primary Care Trials

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a detail-oriented and motivated Registered Nurse to move into the world of clinical research within a GP surgery in Knutsford. This Band 6 role is perfect for a clinician who enjoys the precision of clinical trials but wants to remain grounded in primary care. You will be the linchpin of the research department, ensuring that patients are recruited safely and that trial data is collected with the highest level of integrity to shape the future of medicine.

Core Requirements and Skills

  • NMC Registered Nurse (Adult).

  • Significant post-registration experience, ideally with some exposure to primary care or clinical research.

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines (training can often be provided, but a working knowledge is essential).

  • Patient Recruitment: Ability to identify, screen, and consent patients for various primary care research studies.

  • Clinical Excellence: Delivering high-quality nursing care (e.g., phlebotomy, ECGs, vitals) within the context of a trial protocol.

  • Communication: Highly effective interpersonal skills to explain complex study details to patients and collaborate with the multi-disciplinary GP team.

  • Data Management: Meticulous record-keeping and the ability to use clinical systems for data entry and query resolution.

  • Organization: Ability to manage multiple study timelines and prioritize a diverse workload independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Study Management: Act as the primary point of contact for specific trials, ensuring all study-specific procedures are followed strictly according to the protocol.

  • Patient Advocacy: Ensuring patients are fully informed of their rights and the nature of the research, maintaining safety and ethics at all times.

  • Collaboration: Working closely with Principal Investigators (GPs), study sponsors, and the Clinical Research Network (CRN) to meet recruitment targets.

  • Compliance: Maintaining the Site File and ensuring all documentation is “audit-ready” in accordance with UK clinical trial regulations.

  • Clinical Skills: Performing clinical tasks required by the study, such as blood sampling, processing, and shipping of specimens.

This is a full-time, fixed-term role with a competitive salary of £38,000 to £42,000, offering a unique Monday-to-Friday schedule that is rare in many acute nursing roles. If you are passionate about evidence-based practice and want to contribute to medical breakthroughs from within a community setting, this Knutsford-based surgery provides the perfect environment to grow your research career.
