Regulation Officer – Medr (Welsh Government Arms Length Body)

About the Role
In this operational role within the Regulation Directorate, you will manage the delivery of Medr’s regulatory processes under the Tertiary Education and Research (Wales) Act 2022. You will be responsible for monitoring provider compliance, guiding institutions through regulatory requirements, and documenting decisions to ensure a fair and transparent system. This is a collaborative position where you will balance firm oversight with constructive engagement, helping to build a sustainable and high-quality tertiary education sector. You will work within a growing team under the Senior Regulation Manager, contributing to a “risk-based” approach to oversight that adapts to the needs of diverse providers.
What you’ll be doing

Compliance Monitoring: Assessing tertiary education providers against Medr’s regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing adherence to conditions.

Process Management: Applying regulatory frameworks consistently to support transparent decision-making and fair treatment of all providers.

Stakeholder Support: Responding to queries from providers and guiding them through complex compliance and registration requirements.

Reporting: Preparing detailed summaries and evidence-based reports to inform senior management and the Medr Board.

Risk Escalation: Identifying and escalating potential risks or issues in a timely manner to ensure swift resolution.

Continuous Improvement: Contributing to the refinement of regulatory processes to enhance efficiency and sector clarity.

Relationship Building: Maintaining professional and constructive links with the Welsh Government, providers, and other key partners.

Experience:

Experience of working in a regulatory, compliance, or policy environment, with strong analytical skills to assess information and make sound recommendations.

Language & Location

Welsh Language: Skills are Desirable. You will not be disadvantaged if you do not speak Welsh, but it is welcomed within the organisation.

Headquarters: 2, Capital Quarter, Cardiff (designed for collaboration).
