Registered Manager – Rochdale

Virtual Bridges

Job Description

Virtual Bridges, in partnership with Brook Street Social Care, is seeking a Registered Manager for a specialized 2-bedded children’s residential home in Rochdale (Newhey). This home supports young people with mild Learning Disabilities (LD) and Emotional Behavioral Difficulties (EBD). Working for a values-driven, not-for-profit organization, you will lead a therapeutic environment focused on positive outcomes rather than profit margins. This is an ideal role for an established manager or a high-performing Deputy Manager looking for their first registered post within a supportive, stable framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Culture: Provide visible, resilient leadership across the staff team, fostering a therapeutic and child-centered environment.

  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure the home remains in full compliance with Ofsted regulations and the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.

  • Safeguarding: Drive rigorous safeguarding practices and manage care planning for residents with complex needs and challenging behaviors.

  • Operational Management: Oversee budgets, resources, and staff supervision, ensuring the home operates efficiently and excellently.

  • Partnership Building: Act as the primary link between the home and external agencies, local authorities, and families.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).

  • Experience: Proven track record as a Registered Manager or a “ready-to-step-up” Deputy Manager in a children’s residential setting.

  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of Ofsted frameworks, safeguarding, and EBD/LD support.

  • Driving: A full UK driving licence is required.

Personal Attributes:

  • Resilient and motivated by the success of vulnerable young people.

  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and decisive when managing challenging behaviors.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: £40,000 – £52,000 per annum (based on experience and qualifications).

  • Environment: The unique support of a non-profit organization with a focus on quality of care.

  • Development: Ongoing professional training and support from an established senior leadership team.

  • Impact: The autonomy to lead a small, 2-bedded home where you can see the direct results of your therapeutic strategies.

The Ofsted Landscape in 2026

Registered Managers in 2026 face an evolving regulatory environment. According to recent Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) data:

  • The “Small Home” Advantage: 2-bedded homes are increasingly preferred for EBD and LD care as they allow for higher staff-to-child ratios and more personalized therapeutic interventions compared to larger units.

  • Inspection Focus: Ofsted’s current inspection framework places heavy emphasis on “The Quality of Life” and “The Voice of the Child,” requiring managers to demonstrate clear evidence of how young people are involved in their own care planning.
