University of Kent
Part-Time Saturday Receptionist | University of Kent | Canterbury
Intro
Are you looking for a stable part-time role that fits around your weekday commitments? The University of Kent is seeking a composed and professional Receptionist to join the Kent Hospitality team. Based in a vibrant campus environment, you will be the welcoming face for students during term time and the primary point of contact for conference guests and tourists during the holidays. This role is perfect for a “people person” who enjoys variety, possesses sharp IT skills, and has the confidence to manage a front desk independently.
What you can expect to be involved in
-
Inquiry Resolution: Confidently resolve all initial enquiries from students, staff, residents, and external visitors.
-
Access Management: Issue physical keys and programme electronic bedroom key cards using dedicated access control software, maintaining strict security procedures.
-
Front Desk Operations: Act as the central hub for deliveries, sorting post, passing on urgent messages, and processing payments.
-
Student/Guest Liaison: Use hospitality software modules to check guests in and out, search for residential data, and communicate via email.
-
Facility Support: Report room defects and maintenance issues promptly to the relevant departments.
What you will bring to the role
-
Education: GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
-
Experience: Proven track record in a busy, demanding front-facing customer service environment.
-
Soft Skills: The ability to remain calm and diplomatic when handling difficult or unexpected situations.
-
Tech Savvy: A high level of IT literacy and the ability to learn new software systems quickly.
About the Role
This is a permanent, part-time position working every Saturday from 08:00 to 13:00. Because you will often be the sole receptionist on duty during your shift, the role requires a high degree of autonomy and reliable decision-making.
The nature of the service shifts throughout the year; during the academic term, you will support the student residential community, while during vacation periods, the campus transforms into a professional conference and B&B venue. Despite the part-time hours, you will receive exceptional benefits, including a pro-rata share of 43 days of annual leave and access to a generous employer-contribution pension scheme.
