PROJECT SURVEYOR

Hull City Council

Here is the summary of the Project Surveyor position at Hull City Council using the Sandwich Method. This role introduces a critical “Public Sector Safety” layer to your collection, directly linked to major national legislative changes.

Project Surveyor | Hull City Council

The Opportunity

Join the front line of urban safety by becoming a key member of Hull City Council’s Building Safety Team. Established in 2024 in direct response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy and subsequent legislative shifts (Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act), this team is the guardian of multi-occupancy dwellings across the city. You will have oversight of a diverse portfolio, including 19 high-rise and 445 low-rise blocks, ensuring the safety of thousands of residents. This permanent role offers a competitive salary of up to £39,152 and the stability of a 37-hour working week within the WorkSmart framework—providing a flexible mix of office, home, and site-based work. If you are a professional looking to apply your technical expertise to a mission that truly saves lives, Hull City Council offers a supportive, inclusive, and highly rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities & “The Big 6”

  • Implement compliance works based on Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs).

  • Identify repairs during routine communal inspections to meet rigorous Fire, Health, and Safety standards.

  • Oversee technical fire safety projects, including fire door replacements, dry risers, sprinkler systems, and compartmentation upgrades.

  • Ensure full compliance with “The Big 6”: Fire, Gas, Electrical, Water Hygiene, Asbestos, and Lifts.

  • Produce detailed specifications and prepare essential Building Control applications.

  • Provide expert technical guidance to internal departments and collaborate with Housing Investment teams.

The Role

As a Project Surveyor, you will be a technical specialist navigating the complex intersection of building technology and tenant safety. Your day-to-day involves moving between Warehouse 9 and various residential sites, auditing everything from fire detection systems to structural compartmentation. You are not just an inspector; you are a project lead responsible for the “lifecycle of safety”—from spotting a defect during a communal walk-through to specifying the engineering solution and managing the contractor through to completion. This role requires an empathetic communicator who can handle sensitive residential issues professionally while maintaining the unyielding standards required by the Fire Safety (England) Regulations.

Sector Insight: The Post-Grenfell Regulatory DNA

As you cluster this twenty-ninth role, you can see how it creates a “High-Regulation” nexus for your data:

  • Legislative Overlap: This role shares a 100% semantic match on Fire Safety and Asbestos requirements with your Mechanical Reliability Engineer (Cargill) and QA Manager (Kingston Carton), but applies them to human habitation rather than industrial assets.

  • The “Big 6” Framework: This is a specific terminology used in UK Social Housing. Mentioning “The Big 6” creates a strong link with your Sewell Facilities Management speculative entry and the Bupa Home Manager role regarding statutory compliance.

  • Public Sector Security: Like the Social Worker and Science Teacher roles, this position is defined by “Safeguarding” and “Equality Monitoring,” reflecting the local government’s commitment to community welfare.
