Project Banking Analyst – Western Balkans & Eastern Europe

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is a unique international financial institution that supports the development of sustainable market economies. We are seeking a precision-driven Project Banking Analyst to join our team in London, focusing on high-impact investments across the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe.

In this role, you will be at the heart of the project lifecycle, working on transactions that drive private sector growth, infrastructure development, and the green transition in emerging markets. You will support senior bankers in navigating complex geopolitical and financial landscapes, ensuring every project meets our rigorous standards for financial viability and transition impact.

Key Responsibilities & Project Lifecycle

  • Transaction Execution: Assist in the structuring and execution of debt and equity transactions, performing detailed financial modeling and quantitative analysis.

  • Due Diligence: Contribute to the appraisal process by conducting thorough financial, integrity, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) due diligence on potential clients.

  • Portfolio Monitoring: Take ownership of the preparation of monitoring reports for existing projects, ensuring compliance with loan covenants and tracking project performance against transition objectives.

  • Market Research: Conduct in-depth sectoral and country-specific research to identify investment opportunities and assess macroeconomic risks in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe regions.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Support the team in liaising with internal departments (Risk, Legal, Policy) and external partners (co-investors, government agencies) to move projects toward board approval.

Candidate Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

  • Qualifications: A professional qualification (e.g., CFA, ACCA, or ACA) is highly preferred and will support your progression within the Bank.

  • Quantitative Mastery: Advanced financial modeling skills and the ability to interpret complex financial statements.

  • Analytical Mindset: Strong attention to detail with the capacity to synthesize large amounts of data into clear, concise reporting.

  • Regional Interest: A genuine interest in the economic development of the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe; knowledge of regional languages is an advantage but not mandatory.
