Production Shift Leader

FORGE

job description

We are looking for a high-caliber Production Shift Leader to join our team in Marston Green. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the “triangle of manufacturing excellence”—Safety, Quality, and Efficiency. Operating within the fast-paced packaging/FMCG sector, you will be the driving force on the shop floor, ensuring that our production plans are translated into high-quality results while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This is a role for a leader who is as comfortable analyzing KPI data as they are coaching a team through a complex machine changeover.

Key Attributes & Requirements

  • Leadership Style: Engaging, fair, and collaborative with strong people-management skills.

  • Technical Background: Experience in the packaging or FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) industry is ideal.

  • Problem Solving: Calm under pressure with a continuous improvement mindset; a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is highly desirable.

  • Operational Flexibility: Ability to work a 3-rotational shift pattern (mornings, afternoons, and nights).

  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with BRC (British Retail Consortium) global standards for food safety and packaging.

As a Production Shift Leader, your day revolves around maintaining the heartbeat of the factory. You will lead site safety through rigorous PPE compliance and LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) procedures, ensuring every team member goes home safe. You will be accountable for meeting daily production targets—minimizing waste and downtime while maximizing output. Your role involves constant monitoring of KPIs; when performance dips, you are the first responder, taking corrective action and coordinating with maintenance for machine care. Beyond the numbers, you are a coach, responsible for developing operator skills, managing absences, and ensuring 5S housekeeping standards are met to maintain a world-class manufacturing environment.

Operational Excellence Framework

In this role, you will apply Lean manufacturing principles to ensure we meet our “Right First Time” quality goals:

  • OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness): You will track and improve the availability, performance, and quality of our machinery.

  • 5S Methodology: You will sustain a workplace that is Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.

  • LOTO Safety: You will oversee the safety protocols that ensure machines are properly shut off and unable to be started up again prior to the completion of maintenance work.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary Progression: Starting at £43,500 and rising to £47,000 as you master the site operations.

  • Retirement Security: A generous pension scheme with 8% employer contribution (4% employee).

  • Health & Wellbeing: Access to Bupa Well+ services, an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and Death in Service coverage.

  • Site Perks: Secure onsite parking, a subsidised canteen, and a Cycle to Work scheme.

  • Performance Bonus: Participation in a Shared Incentive Scheme.
