WSP is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join our Building Structures team in Manchester, specializing in the Energy sector. Since the 1990s, WSP has been a leader in delivering national infrastructure, particularly in Transmission and Distribution. As we enter a significant growth phase to support the UK’s energy transition, you will lead the design of complex assets including substations, power stations, and Overhead Line (OHL) systems. This is a part-time opportunity within a global firm of over 70,000 professionals, offering a culture that balances landmark engineering challenges with a genuine commitment to flexible, inclusive working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership: Lead structural engineering delivery for major energy infrastructure, including transmission networks and OHL structures.

  • Technical Mentoring: Provide guidance and leadership to junior engineers and technicians within the Manchester hub.

  • Project Management: Oversee compliance with industry standards, UK design codes, and client requirements from proposal to completion.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a primary technical contact for clients and multidisciplinary partners to ensure integrated, sustainable solutions.

What We Are Looking For

Essential:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or currently working towards it.

  • Proven track record in structural engineering design and delivery.

  • Strong understanding of UK design codes and industry standards.

Ideally, experience in:

  • Transmission and Distribution infrastructure / Substations.

  • Overhead Line (OHL) projects.

  • Power stations or Petrochemical facilities.
