Photonics Experimental & Fabrication Engineer

Zero Point Motion

Job description

Zero Point Motion is on a mission to extract the absolute truth from real, active photonic systems. As a Photonics Experimental & Fabrication Engineer, you won’t just be measuring passive components; you will be investigating how PICs, lasers, and detectors actually behave under the messy conditions of noise, drift, and nonlinear effects. This is a high-stakes, hands-on role that bridges the gap between cleanroom intuition and system-level reality. Based in a “deep-tech rocketship” environment, you will build automated experiments and interrogate large datasets to ensure our breakthrough technology moves from R&D toward production reality.

What You’ll Do

  • Experimental Ownership: Design and build setups for active and nonlinear systems, characterizing lasers, photodetectors, and readout chains across varying bias points, temperatures, and time scales.

  • Data & Analysis: Utilize Python to automate measurements and apply statistical discipline to separate noise sources from physical nonlinearities.

  • Fabrication Insight: Use your process knowledge to distinguish fabrication variations from fundamental physics, identifying real yield and performance limiters.

  • Cross-Domain Collaboration: Feed experimental insights directly back to design, FPGA, and systems engineers to inform future architectures and simulation models.

Required Background

  • Strong hands-on experience with photonic systems (lasers, photodetectors, PICs).

  • Comfort with active and bias-dependent behavior, rather than just passive components.

  • Analytical fabrication or process-development experience.

  • Proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, and experiment control.

  • A “builder” mindset with a willingness to automate away repetitive manual work.

Working With Us

We offer a transparent compensation framework supplemented by share options, a pension, and private medical insurance. At Zero Point Motion, the pace is high and the standards are higher. We are a culture that celebrates curiosity and high integrity, dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where equity and diversity drive our mission. If you are an experimentalist who thrives on debugging instability and pushing the boundaries of optoelectronic readout, this role offers the chance to make a commercial impact on the future of sensing and motion technology.
