Job Description

Help shape a kind, high-performing workplace as People and Culture Officer at Tutors Green. You’ll blend everyday HR operations with culture, wellbeing and inclusion projects, becoming the go‑to person for colleagues and a trusted partner to leadership in a growing, purpose‑led education organisation.

Role Overview

This is a hands-on, generalist HR role with real variety. You’ll manage day‑to‑day HR queries, support staff through the full employee lifecycle, coordinate safer recruitment checks and help turn people and culture plans into practical improvements that make work better for everyone.

Key Responsibilities

People and Culture

  • Work closely with the Operations Manager and Director to nurture a positive, values‑driven culture.
  • Translate people and culture priorities into concrete actions that improve everyday working life.
  • Keep up to date with UK employment practice (especially in education and purpose‑led settings) and share insights when helpful.
  • Run team surveys and feedback activities, helping turn findings into meaningful changes.
  • Embed equity, diversity and inclusion through everyday processes, communication and guidance.
  • Liaise with external HR and legal advisers where needed to ensure compliance and best practice.

HR Operations

  • Act as first point of contact for routine HR questions, offering clear, pragmatic advice.
  • Recognise when issues are high‑risk and escalate appropriately for senior support.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential HR records, systems and documentation.
  • Help review and update HR policies and processes to meet employment law and GDPR requirements.
  • Work with Finance on payroll changes and provide accurate people data when required.

Employee Lifecycle

  • Coordinate recruitment administration from adverts and shortlisting to interview scheduling and offer paperwork.
  • Manage all education‑sector pre‑appointment checks in line with KCSIE, keeping the Single Central Record fully compliant.
  • Organise onboarding and offboarding processes, including contracts, induction plans and exit interviews.
  • Support probation reviews, absence management, performance conversations and basic employee relations cases.
  • Assist with formal processes (e.g. disciplinary or grievance) alongside senior colleagues.

About You

  • CIPD Level 5 (completed or working towards – support available to finish).
  • 2+ years’ experience in a generalist HR/HR Officer/HR Advisor role.
  • Good working knowledge of UK employment law and ACAS best practice.
  • Experience supporting employee relations cases using structured processes and guidance.
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and confident HR systems skills.
  • Clear, compassionate communicator able to build relationships at all levels.
  • Discreet, empathetic and professional when handling sensitive issues.
  • Experience in education, charity or purpose‑led sectors is a bonus, as is improving HR processes and templates.
