The Paediatric Cardiology Landscape (2026)
The role of a Paediatric Cardiac Physiologist is becoming increasingly specialized as diagnostic technology advances:
-
The Shift to 3D/4D Imaging: In 2026, 3D echocardiography is more frequently used in routine paediatric checks to provide better spatial visualization of septal defects before surgical intervention.
-
Functional Assessment: There is a growing emphasis on Strain Imaging (Speckle Tracking) to detect early signs of myocardial dysfunction in children undergoing chemotherapy or those with chronic conditions.
-
Workforce Dynamics: The “Bank” model is increasingly popular in 2026, allowing specialists to mitigate burnout while helping the NHS and private providers clear diagnostic backlogs.
