NMTR Co-ordinator / Clinical Audit & Effectiveness Assistant
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) is seeking a meticulous and motivated individual to join their award-winning Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Team. This dual-focus role is essential for maintaining the integrity of the National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR) data and supporting the Trust’s clinical audit activities. Based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, you will act as a bridge between clinical teams and national data portals, ensuring that every major trauma case is accurately recorded to drive improvements in patient survival and recovery.
Core Requirements and Skills

Technical Proficiency: High level of skill in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel) and an ability to navigate complex clinical systems such as EPR, PAS, and PACS.

Education: Recognised IT, administration, or business qualification (or equivalent experience).

Analytical Mindset: Ability to interpret clinical records and diagnostic results to identify patients who meet specific major trauma inclusion criteria.

Communication: Confidence to liaise with clinicians and diagnostic departments to clarify complex clinical information.

Data Governance: A firm understanding of confidentiality, the Data Protection Act, and information governance.

Independence: Ability to manage your own workload and produce reports without direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities

NMTR Co-ordination: Identify major trauma patients admitted to the Trust and complete precise data submissions via the NMTR web portal.

Clinical Systems Integration: Extract relevant data from a variety of hospital systems (PACS, ORMIS, A&E IT) to build a complete picture of the patient’s trauma journey.

Reporting: Independently produce regular reports for the Trauma Team detailing data completeness and identifying barriers to collection.

Clinical Audit Support: Assist in national and local audit projects by performing data extraction and uploading results to effectiveness portals.

Audit Trails: Maintain a clear and defensible audit trail for patient exclusions to ensure the Trust’s data meets national standards.

Inter-Hospital Liaison: Coordinate with other NHS Trusts to ensure data continuity for patients transferred between hospitals.

The National Major Trauma Registry (formerly TARN) is a national database that records the details of all major trauma patients in England. By providing high-quality data, this role directly influences how trauma services are funded and improved.
Salary and Benefits

Band: Band 4 (Pending final AfC approval).

Salary: £27,485 to £30,162 per annum, pro rata.
