Security Officer – Ministry of Defence Guard Service (West Moors)
The Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) is seeking a resilient and vigilant Security Officer to join their team at MOD West Moors in Dorset. As a crucial part of the “Gold Standard” security service, you will protect the Defence estate from threats such as crime, terrorism, and espionage. This role is ideal for those who pride themselves on professionalism and high-quality customer service, as you will often be the first point of contact for employees, visitors, and contractors.
The Role: Vigilance & Protection
This is a frontline security position that requires a strong work ethic and the ability to remain alert during long shifts. You will be responsible for the safety of personnel and property at a strategic MOD site, ensuring that only authorized individuals gain access and that all security protocols are strictly followed.
Key Responsibilities:

Access Control: Managing vehicular and pedestrian entry, checking credentials, and issuing passes.

Patrols: Conducting foot and vehicle patrols of designated areas to identify and mitigate risks.

Searching: Carrying out searches of vehicles, personnel, baggage, and buildings.

Incident Management: Responding promptly to emergencies, maintaining daily logs, and reporting security breaches.

System Monitoring: Operating and monitoring CCTV and alarm systems to maintain constant site oversight.

Traffic Management: Coordinating the flow of vehicles within the site.
Working Pattern & Requirements

Shift Work: This is a 48-hour per week position (including breaks).

Flexibility: You must be prepared to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays. The roster includes a “flexible week” where shifts may change with 48 hours’ notice.

Licence: A Full UK Manual Driving Licence is an essential requirement for this role.

Vetting: Successful candidates must undergo a Security Check (SC) and meet the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).

Training: New recruits attend a mandatory two-week residential Foundation Course, followed by extensive on-the-job training.

Salary: £31,500 per annum.

Pension: Access to the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension (Employer contribution of 28.97%, approximately £9,125).
