  • Front-line Support: Act as the first point of contact for telephone queries from both internal staff and external customers.

  • Systems Management: Ensure the timely and accurate uploading of data into the works management systems, escalating any technical issues or delays.

  • Job Pack Management: Collate, coordinate, and distribute operational job packs to field teams to ensure they have the necessary information to complete their tasks safely.

  • Reporting: Generate daily and weekly reports to track performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and business objectives.

The role of a Metering Administrator has become increasingly digital as United Utilities continues its rollout of “Smart Meters.”

  • Smart Data Integration: Admins in 2026 are now managing high volumes of digital “handshake” data between the physical meter and the United Utilities cloud, rather than just paper job sheets.

  • Customer Demand: With heightened public awareness of water conservation and rising utility costs, administrators are handling more complex customer inquiries regarding leak detection and meter accuracy.

  • Sustainability Focus: There is a significant push for “Paperless Fieldwork,” meaning this role involves heavy use of mobile workforce management apps to send job packs directly to engineers’ tablets.
