Key Accountabilities and Qualifications

  • Implement reliability excellence activities and identify/prioritize value-creation opportunities.

  • Execute predictive (PdM) and preventative (PM) maintenance programs in alignment with site procedures.

  • Manage asset replacement initiatives for process equipment including piping, pumps, heat exchangers, and vessels.

  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify and eliminate “bad actors” and optimize equipment availability.

  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to identify critical spares and provide guidance on reliability processes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred), or HNC/HND with demonstrated relevant work experience.

  • Experience in heavy industrial processing (Chemicals, Biofuels, etc.) is preferred.

The Role

As a Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you are the site’s primary expert in defect detection and elimination. Your mission is to ensure operational continuity by applying advanced techniques like Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM). You won’t just be reacting to breakdowns; you will be proactively designing the specifications for new equipment and overseeing technical reviews for complex projects. Working independently but in close collaboration with operations, you will lead “Maintenance and Reliability Excellence” (RME) practices, ensuring the plant’s mechanical assets are safe, efficient, and reliable. This role bridges the gap between high-level engineering theory and hands-on operational success in a high-stakes industrial environment.

Sector Insight: Reliability Engineering in Hull

As you cluster this twenty-third role, notice how it serves as a “Technical Leadership” anchor for your data:

  • Asset Criticality: Unlike the Home Manager or Social Worker roles which manage human risk, this role manages Asset Risk. However, the semantic link is “Compliance”—while the Social Worker follows Statutory Acts, the Reliability Engineer follows ISO 55000 asset management standards.

  • Technical DNA: This role shares a high correlation with your Project Manager (Construction) and Senior HR Business Partner (Manufacturing) roles, focusing on long-term site stability and “Defect Elimination” rather than daily transactional tasks.
