Management Accountant

Sowena Group

Job Description

Sowena Group is exclusively partnering with a high-growth, globally scaling retail technology business in Macclesfield to recruit a commercially focused Management Accountant. This isn’t just a “month-end” role; you will be embedded in a brand-led e-commerce environment where finance directly influences international strategy.

You will own the P&L for key areas like marketing spend and global revenue while acting as a bridge between the finance department and the tech/data teams. If you are a qualified accountant who enjoys automating manual processes and translating complex data into actionable business insights, this is a prime opportunity to step into a leadership-track role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Management Accounting: Take ownership of the monthly accounts for revenue, trade debtors, cash in transit, and business overheads.

  • Commercial Business Partnering: Collaborate with senior operational and marketing leaders to analyze performance against budgets and prior-year data.

  • Process Modernization: Work with internal tech teams to reduce manual reconciliations and evolve the reporting suite for a fast-scaling environment.

  • International Compliance: Manage VAT and GST submissions across multiple global markets, ensuring accuracy in a complex cross-border e-commerce landscape.

  • Team Leadership: Line manage and mentor one Assistant Management Accountant, supporting their professional development.

  • Data Integration: Partner with the Data & Insights team to improve the accessibility and “real-time” nature of financial reporting.

  • Balance Sheet Integrity: Maintain robust financial controls and ensure the integrity of reconciliations across all international entities.

About You

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Fully qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.

  • Sector Experience: A background in e-commerce or retail is highly preferred, as you’ll need to understand high-volume transactional data.

  • Commercial Mindset: Proven ability to look “beyond the numbers” to provide insight that drives profit and efficiency.

  • Technical Savvy: Advanced Excel skills and experience with modern ERP systems; a proactive approach to using technology for process improvement.

  • Communication: Ability to build trusted relationships with non-finance stakeholders, including tech and data teams.

What’s on Offer

  • Financials: Competitive salary of £45,000 – £55,000 DOE.

  • Work-Life Balance: Hybrid working model (4 days in-office, Wednesdays from home).

  • Wellness & Perks: On-site subsidised gym, free parking, and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).

  • Commuter Friendly: Subsidised travel from Manchester and a “Cycle to Work” scheme.

  • Culture: Regular social events and a significant staff discount on the brand’s innovative product range.

The Retail Tech Finance Landscape (2026)

In 2026, the role of a Management Accountant in retail tech has shifted from retrospective reporting to predictive analysis.

  • Real-Time Revenue Recognition: With global sales happening 24/7 across various platforms, accountants now utilize automated “Cash in Transit” reconciliations that sync with payment gateways (like Stripe or Adyen) in real-time.

  • The VAT Challenge: Following global shifts in digital services taxes, managing international VAT/GST has become a specialized tech-finance hybrid skill, often requiring the use of automated tax engines integrated into the ERP.

  • Sustainability Reporting: Management Accountants are increasingly tasked with tracking “Carbon per Order” metrics as part of the management pack, as retail tech brands face mounting pressure to report on the environmental cost of global logistics.
