Job Description
Play a hands-on role in keeping vulnerable people safe and housed as a Maintenance Operative with Serco in Liverpool. You’ll carry out day‑to‑day repairs in asylum accommodation, making sure homes are secure, well maintained and compliant so residents can live with dignity.
Role Overview
Working across properties in the Liverpool area, you’ll complete reactive repairs, planned works and minor projects to joinery, plumbing, fixtures and finishes. You’ll manage your own workload within agreed service-level deadlines, travel between sites in a company vehicle and always put Health & Safety first.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend reactive maintenance requests and complete works to the required standard within SLA timeframes
- Carry out planned and preventative maintenance as directed by your manager
- Undertake basic joinery, fitting, plumbing, painting and decorating and similar trade tasks
- Take responsibility for the Health & Safety of yourself, colleagues and occupants during and after works
- Record and manage materials, purchasing only from approved suppliers using a company account card
- Keep company vehicles and tools in a professional, roadworthy and clean condition
- Accurately document work completed, parts used and any follow‑up requirements
- Support colleagues when needed to ensure properties remain safe, secure and fit for purpose
Skills and Experience
- Previous maintenance experience in at least one relevant trade (e.g. joinery, plumbing, fitting, painting & decorating)
- Able to manage your own workflow, prioritising jobs and meeting deadlines
- Comfortable working alone or as part of a wider team
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work
- Good communication skills with a professional, customer‑focused manner
- Willingness and ability to travel across the region and occasionally further within the UK
- Full, valid UK driving licence
- Able to pass security vetting and clearance checks
Working Pattern and On‑Call
- Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
- Flexible pattern: 7.5 hours per day scheduled between 08:00 and 18:00 to meet operational needs
- Participation in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota (approximately 1 in 9–12 weeks), providing 24/7 emergency cover
- Stand‑by payment plus time‑and‑a‑half for call‑outs while on call
