Job Summary: Live Well Advisor

Croydon Council’s Public Health team is looking for a motivated advisor to join the Live Well Programme on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This front-line role is dedicated to reducing health inequalities and increasing life expectancy for Croydon residents. You will act as a coach and guide, helping individuals navigate a 12-week structured journey to quit smoking, manage their weight, and reduce alcohol consumption. Requirements and Skills

  • Experience: Delivering behaviour change programmes in smoking cessation, weight management, or alcohol support.

  • Coaching Skills: Strong motivational interviewing techniques and the ability to build trust quickly.

  • Case Management: Proven ability to manage a caseload, maintain accurate electronic records, and work independently.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for 1:1 sessions, group interventions, and community engagement.

  • Community Insight: An understanding of health inequalities and the specific barriers faced by local London communities.

  • Qualifications (Desirable): NCSCT Level 2 (Smoking Cessation), Healthy Weight Coaching, or Alcohol Extended Brief Intervention certification.


Role Overview

As a Live Well Advisor, you are the face of proactive public health in Croydon. You will work across the borough in a community-based/hybrid capacity, conducting assessments and reviews via face-to-face, video, and telephone sessions. Your work is evidence-based; you will provide approved nicotine replacement therapies and deliver “Making Every Contact Count” (MECC) awareness sessions. Beyond individual coaching, you will be a service ambassador, collaborating with GP practices, pharmacies, and voluntary organizations to ensure the Live Well programme is accessible to those who need it most.


Key Responsibilities

  • Intervention Delivery: Lead 1:1 and group sessions focusing on sustainable behaviour change over a 12-week period.

  • Clinical Support: Provide smoking cessation support, including pharmacotherapies, in line with national guidance.

  • Community Outreach: Organize and deliver engagement sessions to promote the service and raise health awareness.

  • Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with health partners (GPs, pharmacies) and community groups to streamline referrals.

  • Record Keeping: Ensure all client data is captured accurately and timely within the Council’s management systems.


Salary and Contract

  • Salary: £38,256 – £39,276 (Grade 7).

  • Contract: 12-Month Fixed Term / Secondment cover.

  • Hours: 36 hours per week.

  • Location: Croydon (Community Based / Hybrid).
