About the Legal Operations Directorate
The Legal Delivery Division sits within the Legal Operations Directorate of the COO Group within GLD.
The Legal Operations Directorate aligns existing cross functions and skills, andcreates new complimentary roles and capabilities, to collaborate and identify ways for GLD to become ever more efficient in the support of legal teams.
The work of the Legal Delivery Division is core to the future effectiveness of GLD’s legal work. We are building to provide the support to lawyers in many areas including legal process improvement; automation; effective use of legal technology; data driven insights; and the provision of complimentary service skills, such as Legal Project Managers.
Through our commitment to excellence and innovation across all our activities, the Legal Delivery Division will help GLD achieve its vision of being an outstanding legal organisation and an organisation fit for the future. The Legal Delivery Division will also play a crucial role in helping GLD deliver its PAS GLD 2030 efficiency ambitions.
The Legal Delivery Division partners with other Legal Operations services, such as the AI Programme, and the Knowledge and Innovation Division, including legal learning; as well as working closely with the Digital and Data team, and with development training colleagues in HR, to optimise the overall service provided to lawyers.
The Legal Operations Directorate collectively operates on an open and collaborative basis.
The Role
As Legal Project Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of legal projects across GLD and will report directly to the SCS1 Head of the Legal Delivery Division. The job holder will be expected to drive efficiency and enhance service delivery through data-driven and technology-enabled methods.
Your focus will be on reviewing existing processes, understand areas of inefficiency and develop new tools, processes and playbooks to drive standardisation and consistent delivery using continuous improvement frameworks and practices. You will lead change management and help with the design and implementation of live strategic initiatives and projects to achieve process optimisation on individual cases across the GLD Directorates. You will provide operational support in terms of planning, scoping, financials, operational risks, reporting and coordinating teams, enabling lawyers to focus on legal work .
As an integral part of Legal Delivery, you will contribute to the development of the wider team and build its presence across GLD.
This is a leadership role and the successful applicant will be expected to lookup and out and to help ensure that Legal Delivery plans remain aligned to wider GLD and government priorities. You will have excellent relationship management skills, building effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including in client departments and across GLD.

Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand challenges and drive process improvements.
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and develop comprehensive plans with clear timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Prepare and manage project budgets, monitor spend and provide financial reporting to ensure cost-effective delivery.
- Oversee day-to-day project execution, coordinating teams and proactively addressing risks to ensure timely delivery.
- Act as a liaison, leading meetings and ensuring transparent, aligned communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Continuously analyse and enhance workflows, implementing best practices and technology to improve efficiency.
- Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring all deliverables meet quality and compliance standards.
- Lead change initiatives and deliver training to embed project management practices and support adoption of new tools.
- Conduct post-project evaluations, report on performance metrics, and use feedback to drive continuous improvement.

Experience
Essential – must be demonstrated at application and interview
- Working with and upward managing senior stakeholders.
- Project delivery with experience of creating project plans and trackers, managing scope, timelines and project deliverables.
- Proven ability to manage multiple legal projects independently.
- Managing resources in an optimal and cost-efficient way to achieve objectives.
- End -to-end project management experience using project toolkits, preferably using Agile and Lean methodologies.
- Data management and reporting.

Security Clearance Level
All GLD employees must hold BPSS security clearance. SC security clearance is desirable but not essential, there will be an opportunity for candidates who are willing and able to obtain this level of clearance to go through this when in role. There is the possibility that GLD can provide sponsorship for skilled workers, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria set down under current immigration legislation. GLD does not guarantee sponsorship will be provided or that an applicant will be successful in gaining a skilled worker visa.

Selection Process
After the closing date, the appointing panel shall assess candidates’ suitability for the role based on evidence provided in their application against the behaviours and experience outlined in the person specification.
