Legal Compliance Officer

Job Description

Lead and enhance a global compliance framework as a Legal Compliance Officer in London with Robert Half’s rapidly growing client. In this strategically important, hybrid role, you’ll shape group-wide policies, embed good governance and help senior stakeholders manage complex, multi‑jurisdictional legal and regulatory risk.

Role Overview

As Legal Compliance Officer, you will design, implement and oversee core compliance programmes spanning data protection, information security, ethics and corporate governance. Working closely with colleagues across HR, Finance, IT, Legal and Risk & Compliance, you’ll translate changing regulations into practical controls, guidance and training.

You’ll maintain key registers and records, support internal and external audits, and act as a trusted adviser on legal and regulatory issues. This position is ideal for a legally qualified professional ready to take ownership of the compliance agenda and build a robust, future‑proof control environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor compliance frameworks, policies and procedures across global operations
• Advise on legal and regulatory matters, supporting risk management and strategic decision‑making
• Ensure ongoing adherence to data protection laws (including GDPR), information security standards and internal policies
• Maintain accurate, secure records of commercial obligations, regulatory licences and compliance registers
• Track regulatory developments and emerging requirements, communicating relevant changes to stakeholders
• Support and coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and leading corrective actions
• Own and manage critical corporate policies (e.g. anti‑bribery, whistleblowing, competition, code of conduct)
• Deliver training, guidance and awareness sessions to business teams on legal and compliance topics
• Collaborate with global stakeholders across HR, Finance, IT, Legal and Risk & Compliance to embed best practice
• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying control gaps and recommending enhancements to processes and systems

Skills and Experience

• University degree in Law (LLB or equivalent)
• Active membership of a recognised legal association (e.g. SRA in the UK)
• Qualified Data Protection Officer (DPO) status or equivalent certification is strongly preferred
• 3+ years’ experience in-house or in compliance/risk roles, ideally within multinational organisations
• Demonstrable experience designing and implementing cross‑border compliance frameworks, policies and risk controls
• Solid knowledge of global compliance standards, including GDPR, FCPA, employment law and relevant ISO standards (e.g. ISO 27001, 37301, 9001)
• Proficient with legal research tools, compliance platforms and document control/record‑keeping systems
• Experience in internal control design, policy drafting, audit support and remediation planning
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills, able to influence at all levels
• Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and high ethical standards
