Junior Quant Analyst

Jain Global

Job Description

Jain Global, a high-profile multi-strategy investment firm that launched with record-breaking scale, is seeking a Junior Quant Analyst to join its London Commodities desk. This is a “Front Office” role designed for an early-career professional to sit directly with a Portfolio Manager (PM) and contribute to a global investment mandate.

Unlike traditional banking roles, this position is deeply integrated into the Commodities cycle. You won’t just be looking at price charts; you will be architecting the “Fundamental Alpha” stack—building models that track global supply-demand balances, refining margin models for regional refineries or producers, and identifying price dislocations across different geographies and delivery dates. This is a high-growth seat where you will transition from data engineering to researching your own systematic investment signals.

Key Responsibilities

  • S&D Frameworks: Architect global Supply and Demand models by cleaning and organizing massive datasets (satellite imagery, shipping logs, and proprietary flow data).

  • Relative Value (RV) Tools: Build interactive tools to identify “arb” opportunities between different benchmarks (e.g., Brent vs. WTI) or delivery locations.

  • Economic Modeling: Develop margin and cost-curve models that factor in regional trade flows, carbon taxes, and regulatory shifts.

  • Signal Research: Partner with the PM to backtest fundamental indicators and explore semi-systematic strategies based on inventory levels and capacity dynamics.

  • Visualization: Design dashboards in Dash or Tableau to translate complex market regimes into actionable visual insights for the trading desk.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Professional Tenure: 1–2 years of experience as a Quant Researcher or Developer, preferably within a hedge fund, prop shop, or commodity merchant.

  • Education: A Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Quantitative Finance is required.

  • Technical Stack: * Python: Expert level for data science and modeling.

    • SQL: Advanced capability for querying complex relational databases.

    • VBA: Required for maintaining legacy or spreadsheet-integrated valuation tools.

    • Data Viz: Proficiency in Tableau, Dash, or similar frameworks.

  • Analytical Mindset: A strong grasp of statistics and applied analytics, with a genuine curiosity for how global macro-economics drives commodity prices.

5 FAQs

  • Who is Jain Global? Founded by Bobby Jain (ex-Millennium), it is one of the largest hedge fund launches in history, operating a multi-manager model.

  • Is this a remote role? The posting lists London/Harrow, but most multi-strategy funds at this level require 4-5 days in-office for front-office roles.

  • What is the “Commodities” focus? While multi-asset, the role specifically targets supply/demand and margin modeling for energy, metals, or agricultural products.

  • Why is VBA listed? Despite being an “old” language, VBA remains critical in Commodities for interacting with legacy Excel-based pricing sheets and rapid prototyping.

  • What is the progression? Junior Quants at Jain typically move to Sub-PM or Senior Researcher roles, gaining direct P&L responsibility over time.

Expert Analysis

In 2026, Commodity Quants are dealing with the “Green Volatility” era. This role is high-value because you’ll be modeling how the energy transition affects traditional price relationships. Success here requires moving beyond “price-only” data and mastering Alternative Data—using Python to scrape real-time shipping AIS data or refinery outage reports to predict price spikes before they happen.

Location & Logistics Guide

While the role is listed via Harrow, Jain Global’s primary London presence is in the St. James’s/Mayfair or City areas, where the hedge fund ecosystem is densest. These areas are highly accessible via the Elizabeth Line and the Jubilee Line, offering the premier environment for networking with other global quants.

Career Path

A Junior Quant Analyst at a firm like Jain Global is on the fast track to becoming a Commodity Portfolio Manager. By working directly under a PM, you learn the “art” of trading alongside the “science” of modeling. Within 3–5 years, successful quants often begin managing a small “sleeve” of capital or leading their own research pod.
