IT Operations Technical Lead – Networks

Are you a Networking expert ready to lead the technical evolution of a “Revolution Bank”? Metro Bank is looking for an IT Operations Technical Lead – Networks to join our team in Holborn. We aren’t looking for a traditional banker; we are looking for a tech-driven leader who can navigate complex infrastructure while ensuring our “Fans” (customers) get the seamless experience they deserve.

In this role, you will be the primary architect and guardian of our network ecosystem. You will balance high-level strategic planning with hands-on technical execution, managing everything from large-scale WAN circuit installations to sophisticated cloud-hybrid segmentation. As the escalation point for third-party engineers, you’ll use your expert knowledge of the OSI model to solve the bank’s most challenging technical puzzles, all while driving a culture of automation and security excellence.

What You Will Do

• Technical Leadership: Lead the development of the bank’s network infrastructure, ensuring it is scalable to support aggressive business growth.

• Change Management: Execute significant infrastructure upgrades and patching cycles while maintaining zero-downtime standards.

• Vendor Oversight: Supervise 3rd party suppliers and engineers, ensuring they meet strict SLAs and provide high-quality deliverables.

• Security & Hardening: Implement best practices for Network Access Control (802.1x), Firewall hardening, and vulnerability management.

• Cloud & Hybrid Strategy: Design and manage network segmentation and zoning across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.

• Automation: Proactively find innovative ways to automate manual processes and document procedures to ensure operational continuity.

What You Will Need

• Multi-Vendor Expertise: Deep experience across a variety of technologies, ideally including Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Meraki, Palo Alto, VMWARE, and F5.

• OSI Mastery: An expert understanding of networking across the entire stack, from physical Layer 1 (cabling and WAN circuits) to application Layer 7.

• Sector Background: Experience in Network Operations/Implementation, preferably within a highly regulated Financial Services environment.

• Troubleshooting: Elite analytical skills with a proven track record of managing 3rd parties to resolve complex, high-pressure incidents.

• Security First Mindset: Practical experience in network segmentation, 802.1x, and infrastructure hardening to mitigate systemic risk.
