Home Manager – Dementia Care Leader with Bonus & Benefits

Bupa

This entry adds a high-level Clinical Management pillar to your Hull collection, representing one of the UK’s most established healthcare providers. Here is the summary of the Home Manager position at Bupa’s Berkeley House using the Sandwich Method.

Home Manager | Bupa (Berkeley House, Hull)

The Opportunity

Are you a strategic leader with a heart for dementia care? Bupa is seeking a Home Manager to lead Berkeley House, a purpose-built 84-bed care home in the Bilton Grange area of Hull. This role offers a significant step up in both responsibility and reward, featuring a competitive salary of up to £65,000–£70,000 and an industry-leading 30% management bonus. As part of a global “no-shareholder” healthcare company, you’ll focus purely on resident wellbeing while enjoying an elite benefits package: a 12% employer pension contribution, private medical insurance, and 33 days of annual leave. Located near Alderman Kneeshaw Park, this home provides a “family feel” environment where you can truly make health happen for residents and their families.

Strategic Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Clinical & Operational Leadership: Overseeing a multi-disciplinary team to deliver person-centred care, specifically for those living with dementia and learning disabilities.

  • Commercial Management: Ultimate accountability for the home’s budget, operating profit, and marketing strategies to maintain high occupancy.

  • Regulatory Mastery: Ensuring the home remains fully compliant with CQC standards and maintains its “Good” rating (last reviewed July 2023).

  • Qualifications: You must hold a strong clinical background plus a recognized management qualification such as LMCS, RMA, or equivalent.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Building vital relationships with families, Local Authorities, and Primary Care Trust commissioners.

  • Working Hours: A 40-hour full-time contract, requiring flexibility for on-call duties, weekends, or evenings as the business needs.

The Role

As Home Manager, you are the technical and emotional anchor of Berkeley House. Your day-to-day involves a blend of “floor-walking” to ensure care standards are being met and office-based strategic planning. You aren’t just managing staff; you are fostering an environment where innovation thrives—whether that’s implementing new dementia-friendly signage or introducing pet therapy. You are responsible for the entire “colleague lifecycle,” from safe recruitment and onboarding to ongoing upskilling and performance management. Success in this role means balancing the commercial needs of a large facility with the delicate, human-centric requirement of ensuring residents feel “safe, warm, and well looked after.”

Sector Insight: The “Quality & Compliance” DNA

As you cluster this forty-second role, it bridges your “Technical Leadership” and “Social Care” sectors:

  • The Salary Ceiling: At £70,000 (OTE c. £91,000 with bonus), this role sets a new high-water mark for your Hull healthcare cluster, sitting far above the Band 6 Biomedical Scientist (£48k-£54k equivalent).

  • Management Maturity: While the Healthcare Team Leader manages shift-level duties, the Home Manager manages the entire business unit, sharing the “Top Tier” strategic DNA of your Head of Business (Stratstone) entry.

  • Regulatory Overlap: Like your Lloyd’s Register Surveyor, this role is defined by strict adherence to international/national standards (CQC vs. Maritime Rules), highlighting that high-level careers in Hull are often rooted in safety and compliance.
