Travis Perkins plc is looking for a sales-driven, high-energy Hire Manager to lead the Tool Hire department at their Altrincham branch. This is a pivotal leadership role within the UK’s largest builders’ merchant. You won’t just be managing equipment; you’ll be running a “business within a business.” Your mission is to motivate your team, crush sales targets, and ensure that every piece of kit—from power tools to plant machinery—is safe, serviced, and ready to go.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership: Develop and execute a localized sales action plan. You’ll be proactive in identifying new business and upselling services to existing trade and DIY customers.
Team Development: Lead, coach, and inspire your Hire team. You will also act as a subject matter expert for the wider branch, training colleagues on hire services to ensure a seamless “one-stop-shop” experience for customers.
Operational Excellence: Oversee stock control to ensure high availability without overstocking. You’ll ensure all equipment meets rigorous safety standards and is maintained in “tip-top” condition.
Customer Experience: Act as the primary point of contact for technical queries, providing expert advice on tool and plant applications.
Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily toolbox talks and maintain a safety-first culture, ensuring the work environment and the equipment hired out are 100% compliant.

Experience & Skills:

Leadership Track Record: Proven experience leading and motivating a team, ideally within tool/plant hire, though strong sales or customer service leadership from other sectors is welcomed.
Commercially Minded: You understand how to read a P&L, manage a budget, and drive “above-target” performance.
Safety-Conscious: You have a high regard for health and safety protocols (safety is “always first”).
Proactive Personality: You don’t wait for things to happen; you find ways to improve stock turn, service speed, and sales figures.
