Ward Type: Male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – 10 beds

Contract: Permanent (Substantive), subject to a 6-month probationary period.

Financials & Hours

Hours: Predominantly Full-Time (37.5 hours per week). Part-time is open for discussion.

Shift Pattern: Rota system of Long Days (11.5-hour shifts), covering both Days and Nights across a 7-day working week.

Salary: NHS scale (Check “Information for Applicants” for specific band pay).

DBS: The cost of the DBS disclosure will be met by the individual and deducted from the first salary.
Key Responsibilities
-
Patient Support: Supporting male patients through the most acute phases of serious mental disorders, assisting with both physical and mental health needs.

Risk Management: Following and contributing to individualised risk management plans, specifically regarding absconding, suicide, or self-harm risks.

Safety & Professionalism: Managing incidents of violence and aggression with resilience; using de-escalation techniques and restraint reduction strategies.

Clinical Care: Delivering high-quality, patient-centred care including safeguarding, infection control, and enforcing professional boundaries.
Candidate Requirements
Experience & Attributes

Experience: Prior experience in a healthcare setting is required.

Resilience: Must be “emotionally robust” and able to remain calm in a high-acuity, high-pressure environment.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to negotiate and problem-solve.

Mandatory Compliance

Right to Work: Must already have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is NOT offered for these roles.

Visa Requirement: If on a visa, it must allow for at least 23 hours of work per week.
