Lead a Thriving Department in a High-Achieving West London Academy
Chiswick School is a heavily oversubscribed 11–18 academy with a rapidly ascending reputation. Having been shortlisted for TES School of the Year (2022/2023) and recently praised by Ofsted for significant improvements, we are on a clear trajectory toward “Outstanding.” We are seeking an exceptional Head of Geography to join our leadership team. This role is for a visionary educator who believes that Geography is central to understanding our changing world and who can inspire both students and staff to explore global challenges with academic rigor and curiosity.
The Role & Strategic Leadership

Curriculum Vision: Design and implement a coherent, ambitious curriculum that bridges the gap between local West London issues and global geographical systems.

Staff Development: Lead and mentor a team of specialists through professional coaching, ensuring that teaching and learning remain at the cutting edge of the discipline.

Data-Driven Outcomes: Monitor pupil progress across KS3, KS4 (GCSE), and KS5 (A-Level), using assessment data to ensure every student reaches their potential.

Fieldwork & Enrichment: Champion the “living” aspect of Geography by organizing high-quality fieldwork and extracurricular trips that bring the subject to life.
Key Responsibilities

Academic Standards: Ensure high standards of attainment in external examinations through rigorous tracking and intervention.

Character Education: Align the department with the school’s mission to foster resilience, integrity, and global citizenship.

Quality Assurance: Regularly evaluate teaching standards through observations and work scrutinies to maintain a culture of excellence.

Resource Management: Manage the departmental budget and specialist resources to support a modern, tech-enabled learning environment.
Candidate Profile

Expert Practitioner: QTS with a proven track record of delivering “Good” or “Outstanding” lessons up to A-Level.

Experienced Leader: Prior experience in middle management (e.g., Lead Teacher or 2ic) with a clear, demonstrable impact on student outcomes.

Subject Passion: Excellent knowledge of current curriculum developments, including climate change, urban sustainability, and geopolitical shifts.

Inclusive Mindset: A commitment to making Geography accessible and exciting for a mixed-ability, multi-ethnic student population.
